The puppies have been at my house for 4 days now. We had no luck in finding the owners so it was time to bring them to a shelter (one that doesn't kill dogs.) When we got to the shelter we could tell how scared these puppies were. When they brought them into the back, all the dogs were barking like crazy, which freaked the puppies out even more. It was extremely hard saying goodbye. My mom and me were hysterically crying because we already became attached to them over the four days they were with us.
After they were in the cage, we went back to the front with the lady, Darlene. She went through a stack of missing dogs with us to see if we could find a description of these puppies. She came across one that said "male, red nose pit bull, 7 months old." Apparently she skimmed by it too fast but under where it said red nose pit it also had another dog description. I was reading from upside down and didn't think it said brindle pit (which is what the female is) so I didn't say anything as she kept flipping through missing dogs. I really should have asked to see that one again, but I was too emotional and not thinking straight.
As me and my mom are driving home, I told her about the red nose pit description because it had been bothering me so much that I never asked to see it again. We called Darlene and asked her to read us the description of that one one more time. It said: "Male, white, red nose pit, 7 months old" and under it said "Female, brindle pit, 7 months old." Our hearts dropped when she read that to us. We thought the puppies were around 4 months old, but Darlene said they were 7-8 months old. These people had called in on December 12 (which is the day I had found them!!!) There is a huuuuge chance that we found the owners. While we were on the phone with Darlene, she called them, but there was no answer. She left a message saying we have dogs that match your description and to call her back. I cannot wait to hear if these are the owners!! It would be a complete miracle.
Even more happy news! On Tuesday we had talked to this lady who takes in pit bulls and she was trying to find them a home. She also works at the shelter where we brought the puppies. While we were on the phone with Darlene, she told us that this lady is going to take them if no one adopts them in 3 days. So even if these aren't the owners, the puppies will be going to a nice home which they definitely deserve. My heart was broken as we left that shelter, but now I am extremely happy because this is a win win situation.
I also want to share with you something out of the Bible. Me and my mom started reading the Bible every day 2 months back and the morning after I found the puppies, this was in our reading for the day....
If you see your fellow Israelite's ox or sheep straying, do not ignore it but be sure to take it back to its owner. If they do no live near you or if you do not know who owns it, take it home with you and keep it until they come looking for it. Then give it back. Do the same if you find their donkey or cloak or anything else they have lost. Do not ignore it. If you see your fellow Israelite's donkey or ox fallen on the road, do not ignore it. Help to lift it up.
-Deuteronomy 22:1-4
Now if you replace where it says donkey, ox, or sheep, this is exactly what had happened to us. I found the puppies, didn't ignore them and took them home with me, and now hopefully we have found the owners. God is so amazing to me. He has performed such a miracle with us and these puppies <3
Here's a picture I took of them on the drive to the shelter..
I will miss them of course but now I know they will have a good life (:
****Update 12/16/11: They were the owners!!! They picked their puppies up this morning. This just made my Christmas!
